It's 6:00 AM in the morning when all sudden I started screaming like crazy!! And guess what? No I wasn't having a contraction, it wasn't a nightmare either. It was a horrible leg cramp!! My husband half asleep and half awake asked me "What's going on?". He was asking again and again "What? What it is? I was trying to reach my leg with a painful "AAAAAAAYYYY!!!
The only sentence coming out of my mouth was "GET ME A BANANA, GET ME A BANANAAAAAA!!!!" So he runs and gets me the banana and once I had the first or maybe the second bite, everything changed and the leg cramp went away.
I don't know how to describe that kind of pain, I never had those bad bad bad cramps before but it feels like a monsters with big paws is grabbing your muscles and does not let go.
Bananas are rich in potassium, I give you my word that it really works when it comes to leg cramps during pregnancy. But thinking about it I was questioning why did I get leg cramps? It only happened once during my whole pregnancy and now again, how's that? and my conclusion it's simple; I've been eating 6 dates a day and I ran out of them for a day and there's when the leg cramp came to say hi to me.
EAT THOSE DATES!!
A month ago my husband ago went to this Lamaze Childbirth class. (I'm going to make sure I share with you all those great tips and tricks in my next blog) and our teacher doula said that eating 6 dates a day after weeks 36 helps women to be more dilated and more likely to have intact membranes upon admission to the hospital. Go into labor spontaneously and avoid pitocin and of course helps having a shorter first phase of labor.
So far I've been eating the six dates after week 36, these fruits are rich in fiber and potassium and during pregnancy you can get constipated and dates make the work for you, no leg cramps and they taste so good as well.
Dates also contain
Natural sugars (fructose) that easily break down in the body and won’t spike blood sugar levels but will offer high energy, which makes dates during pregnancy or labor an excellent choice.
Fiber – Helps you stay full, relieves constipation, and lowers your risk for gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.
Potassium – One of the best electrolytes. It helps maintain water/salt balance which helps regulate blood pressure.
Magnesium – Support muscular health and helps to alleviate muscle spasms and cramps in pregnancy.
Folate – Getting enough folate will ensure that your baby’s spinal cord matures properly, avoiding neural tube defects.
Vitamin K – maintains proper blood clotting and healthy bones.
GREEN VEGGIES
Hormones are naughty and mess up with our system in every single thing. I experimented some headaches and I heard that's very common in pregnancy to have migraine. So for that situation there's nothing better that a green smoothie, or just eat raw veggies. I tried it and it works.
I'm a fan of green smoothies, just throw in your blender some spinach, cucumber, celery, green apple, banana, 4 almost, aloe vera gel, and other fruits that you want to add. Don't add sugar, maybe just a hint of honey.
RED FRUITS
Specially during the first trimester, it helps your baby to stay in place. Well, what I mean it's that you have less risk to have a miscarriage.
CRACKERS
If you suffer of morning sickness this is a great snack. I'm so lucky and I never had morning sickness but my mother in law said that she had those and crackers were her best friends.
I'm in week 38 now, 2 more weeks to go or maybe days. I have the recipe for a magical tea to help labor and delivery. I'll tried it out and give you my testimony.t it's crazy how food can help so much in these situations.
Wait for more to come!!
